Boo “BOO BOO” Johnson
Tell us about the name Boo.
When I was a little kid my Mom always use to call me Boo Boo and it just stuck with me. Since my mom called me Boo, so did everybody else! It’s crazy how many people ask me if thats my real name.
What’s your middle name?
Firris. It’s my grandmas name…
Any good nicknames?
Where are you from?
I’m from this little town called Tehachapi, CA. It’s pretty wack but all the homies from there are dope.
Isn’t that in the mountains? What was it like growing up there?
Yeah, right in the middle of the mountains. It wasn’t too bad growing up there, but soon as I started skating I realized this town was the wackest place ever! There’s like four dope spots out there, but they are not spots you want to get down on daily. We used to have a dope outdoor park but the wack ass Tehachapi people closed it down because some white rich lady said the park was too dangerous for her kids to skate.
How long have you been riding Ventures?
I just got on Venture a couple months ago, and my first box was the first pair of Ventures I ever got. They are the best trucks. I can’t believe I never rode a pair before!
Which Ventures do you ride?
The 5.2 wide lows in black and white. The wide trucks are good for a bigger set up but I still like to be close to the ground.
So this is obviously your first Venture ad.
First one and pretty hyped! Thanks Tony.
Where was this ad shot and who shot it?
Its at this school in Valencia. Joe Krolick shot the photo, and Jose ‘Burger’ filmed it.
What’s the weakest trend in skating right now?
It seems like everyone is trying to be urban!
What’s your kryptonite trick?
Nollie inward heels. That trick is impossible!
Should skateboarding be in the Olympics?
Hell no! I think that would make skating super wack.
What is your first memory of skateboarding?
Skating the Tehachapi park when it first opened. I was with my little brother Isiaha and my homie Brett. Great memories. We used to try to learn a new trick every day. We got so broke at that park! My little brother rolled his ankle super bad on the down ledge the first day of summer. I had to get seven stitches right by my eye from going down the rail, and Brett snapped his arm on the down rail… ahh…memories!
Who were your early influences and why?
I always looked up to Bryan Herman. He’s super steezie and he gets down. He’s also on the same shop I ride for (Pharmacy Board Shop), and he was in Baker 3, one of the first skate videos I ever saw.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Wherever God takes me, but I’m planning on skating until I can’t do it anymore.
Who’s your favorite Venture teammate?
Keelan Dadd. I’ve known him for a minute now. He used to come out to Tehachapi skatepark before I even started skating. He would come with the homie Terry. Now we’re on Supra together!
Do you have beef with anybody in the skateboard industry?
Nah everyone is pretty tight that I’ve met so far. You’ve got to try to get along with everyone!
3 things you can’t live without?
Trees, my board, and the family.
3 reasons to keep skating?
Shit is super dope! I have no idea what else I would do. Ain’t shit really better than skating.
